Supporting Black-Owned businesses is one way we can help close the racial wealth gap and support black communities.
According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, ethnic minorities have higher unemployment rates (12.9%) compared to White people (6.3%) in the UK. On average Black workers leaving school with A-Levels earn 14.3% less than White workers and Black workers with degrees earn 23.1% less.
Black-Owned businesses in the UK are often under-represented and have to face numerous challenges. We might have to do a little more research to find them but ultimately we should support Black-Owned businesses, not simply because the owner is black, but because they are good.
On that note, we’ve curated a list of five Black-Owned Beauty Brands in the UK. Check them out below!
1. LIHA Organics
LIHA describe their beauty brand as ‘a mixture of natural African roots and a quintessentially British attitude.”. Abi and Liha founded the company after meeting at university. LIHA blends the Yoruba tradition of creating skincare products from nuts, tree bark, and plants, with English aromatherapy remedies. All their products are natural, vegan, and cruelty-free. LIHA’s range includes luxurious shea body butter, aromatherapy oils, and soaps.

Flora & Curl is a natural hair care brand for curls. Rose founded the company after struggling to find natural and healthy products to care for her natural hair. Flora & Curl aims to provide an alternative to the often harsh and poor quality relaxers and shampoos on the market. Their hair care products are designed to restore health to the scalp and hydrate and define curls or kinks. Rose believes taking care of textured hair doesn’t need to be complicated. Instead, Flora & Curl offer natural, plant-based products with floral, herbal and fruit essences.
